Frederick Road Extension Paving to Begin

The City of Opelika contractor is in preparation for the final paving of the Frederick Road extension from South Long Street to the new roundabout located at Auburn Street and M L King Boulevard. Milling on Frederick Road to connect to the new surface will begin later this week, and the paving is expected to begin Thursday, July 19th. The paving will also be constructed onto M L King Boulevard to the the railroad tracks and Auburn Street to Avenue B. Roadways will remain open to traffic, but will be limited to one lane  and controlled by flaggers and/or pilot cars. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and patience while paving is in process.

In addition to the completion of the roadway extension, there is a planned traffic control change in the works for the intersection of Frederick Road and South Long Street. After completion, the stop signs on Frederick Road will be removed and South Long Street will be the only street that stops at the intersection. Frederick Road traffic will no longer be required to stop at that intersection. The contractor will be placing permanent warning signs and temporary message boards on South Long Street to notify drivers. Another traffic change in their area will be the closing of Auburn Street at the South Long intersection. Access to the southwest section of Auburn Street by the cemetery will only have access from the roundabout.

The work is scheduled to take about 10 days for completion.
