Opelika Lady Bulldogs are Headed to State!

The Opelika Bulldogs Basketball team earned a victory against Carver-Birmingham Wednesday morning (February 27) in Birmingham's Legacy Arena!

They will play for the first girls basketball state title in school history this Saturday against Hazel Green, who defeated No. 2 Blount 55-39.

We were able to get a few proud words from the coaches and a few players from both Opelika and Carver-Birmingham:

Opelika Bulldogs

Coach Devin Booth- "I am so proud of our resiliency all year. We were unsatisfied after last year; our drive was to get back here. Everything was not perfect, but our group did what it took. Number one goal of our team was to rebound this season."

Julia Claire - "We realized we can not win this as individuals we win this as a team. We played Opelika basketball."

Shaquala Walton - "It feels unreal. We deserve it I just cannot take it all in right now. Everyone contributed."

La’Dajah Huguley- "It is amazing we are working hard to win a state championship for our home town."

Carver-Birmingham

Coach Jarvis Wilson- "I am very proud of these young ladies. Their coach did a great job preparing her team to play us. Our young ladies did a wonderful job. The work and dedication these young ladies put into our program is unbelievable. Our motto this year was we have arrived. We only have two seniors and people laughed at our motto. Opelika’s experience helped them of being here last year."

Randrea Wright- "We wanted to prove ourselves. We were too tense today."

Clondra Darden- "I had to step my game up even more as a freshman this season."

Kobi Warner- "I feel that I stepped up my senior year and helped lead the team throughout this season."
