Auburn to host Iowa State in Big 12/SEC Challenge

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men’s basketball team is set to take part in the seventh annual Big 12/SEC Challenge when it hosts Iowa State, Jan. 25, 2020.

The yearly event pits 10 of the 14 Southeastern Conference teams against all 10 of the Big 12 Conference programs. Each league hosts five games with start times and network designations announced at a later date.

Auburn trails the all-time series with Iowa State, 2-1. The Tigers last played the Cyclones as part of the 2013-14 Big 12/SEC Challenge in Ames, Iowa. Iowa State took the result, 99-70.

The Cyclones have made it to the NCAA Tournament in seven of the last eight seasons, highlighted by two Sweet 16 appearances in 2014 and 2016. Iowa State has won four of the last six league tournaments and collected 34 top-25 wins over the last five seasons, tied for the fifth-most in the country.

The Tigers are 1-3 in the Big 12/SEC Challenge all-time, but won their latest contest at TCU in 2017. Austin Wiley put on a dominant performance with 25 points on 11-of-13 from the floor to go along with seven rebounds, highlighting an 88-80 victory. Anfernee McLemore secured 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting, while Danjel Purifoy added three points and three assists.

Seven SEC teams were selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament this past season with four advancing to the Sweet 16, two to the Elite Eight and one to the Final Four. The SEC has had 15 NCAA Tournament selections over the past two years and every team in the league has appeared in the tournament over the last five years.

All 10 games will be air across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU and will be available on the ESPN app. ESPN’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm will originate from one of the Challenge games.
