Opelika Police investigate Domestic Violence Case

Opelika Police received a 911 call about 11:50 PM Wednesday night, July 8th , to the 500 block of North Antioch Circle in Opelika for a domestic violence case. When officers arrived on the scene, they located 63-year-old Willie Brooks with apparent multiple stab wounds. EMS was immediately summoned. Brooks was transported to a trauma center at a Columbus hospital after being diverted from EAMC. While enroute to the Columbus hospital, Brooks went into cardiac trauma arrest and had to be diverted to the closest hospital, which was Jack Hughston Hospital in Phenix City. Aggressive efforts there to revive him were unsuccessful and Brooks was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 1:20 AM Thursday morning. Opelika Police have arrested a suspect in the case, 54-year-old Carolyn Renee Hunter, of Opelika. Hunter and Brooks were known to each other. Brooks has been taken to the medical examiner’s office of the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination. The case is being investigated by the Opelika Police, Lee County Coroner, and the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences.
