The Auburn Preservation League will present its 11th annual Loveliest Village Christmas Tour of Homes and Buildings on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1-4 p.m.
Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to cover the costs of providing limited renovations or repairs to homes in Auburn built before 1940. Eligible homes must be owner occupied by senior citizens (those 70 and older), veterans or low-income residents.
The APL plans to select one home for this new initiative in 2017 with work occurring in 2018.
This year’s tour will feature seven homes and two buildings in the Auburn area, including the Townsend home on South Gay Street, the Davis-Marentes home on Cox Street, the Pittard home on Cross Creek Road, and the Gray, West, Turner and Sager homes on Cary Drive, as well as St. Dunstan’s the Episcopal Church at Auburn University on East Magnolia Avenue and the Gen. James H. Lane home, which is owned and used by the Woman’s Club, on Sanders Street.
Cider Stops — locations to stop at for some cider during tour hours — this year are Blooming Colors on South Donahue Drive, The Flower Store on Moores Mill Road and Behind the Glass on East Magnolia.
Tickets for the tour are $20 and are on sale at the following locations: Ace Hardware, all Auburn Bank locations, Auburn Chamber of Commerce, Auburn Hardware, Blooming Colors, Flowersmith’s, and The Flower Store. Tickets will also be available at each home on the days of the tour.
The annual tour is a fundraiser for the Auburn Preservation League, whose purpose is to foster historic preservation and to promote cooperation in combining the resources of local government, organizations, associations, businesses and citizens in order to enhance the quality and beauty of the Auburn community.
