Auburn Man Arrested On Multiple Theft Charges

AUBURN, Ala.- On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, Auburn Police arrested Stephen Alexander Delaney, age 23, from Auburn on warrants charging him with; five counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, one count of Theft of Property Second Degree, four counts of Theft of Property Fourth Degree and one count of Resisting Arrest.   

At about 6:30 a.m., Auburn Police received a suspicious person call in the area of Woodfield Drive and S College Street. Responding Officers were given the description of an individual seen coming out of a wooded area near a residence. Shortly afterwards, officers contacted and detained an individual in the vicinity carrying a back pack and matching the suspect description, later identified as Delaney. Tools commonly used to unlawfully enter vehicles, electronics, sunglasses, cash and credit cards were located inside of the back pack, resulting in Delaney being placed under arrest; he resisted officers while being taken into custody.   

Further investigation resulted in the confirmation of five auto burglaries in the area of Kimberly Drive and Dixie Drive in which electronics, sunglasses, cash and credit cards totaling over $3,400 was stolen from unlocked vehicles parked at residences. Detectives obtained warrants for Delaney's arrest. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.   

Delaney was transported to the Lee County Jail where he remains in custody on a $22,500 bond.
