-Auburn University Release.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn junior right-hander Keegan Thompson was named SEC Pitcher of the Week following his dominant performance against Lipscomb, the league office announced on Monday.
Thompson improved to 3-0 on the season and extended his streak of scoreless innings to open the season to 21.0. That total equals the modern-era program mark set by Joe Beckwith in 1976.
The Cullman, Ala. native struck out five and allowed only one hit. He retired the final 12 batters he faced before exiting following the seventh inning with his third quality start of the season.
Thompson holds a 0.00 ERA through his first three starts and now stands at 10-2 in his career at Plainsman Park and 9-1 against non-conference opponents. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 24.1 innings pitched dating back to his final two outings of the 2015 season.
This is the second time in Thompson’s career he has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week. He was previously honored on April 23, 2015 after recording his second consecutive complete game in a 6-1 win over then No. 1 LSU in Baton Rouge.
