BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Auburn right-hander Davis Daniel has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Daniel earned his first career SEC win on Sunday at Georgia with six shutout innings. He struck out six and allowed just five base runners in his first career road start.
The Montgomery, Ala. native improved to 2-0 on the season and helped Auburn to its sixth-consecutive series win to open the 2017 season. The 17th-ranked Tigers are 20-6 on the year, the fastest Auburn has reached 20 wins since 2004.
Daniel has 25 strikeouts in 26.1 innings on the season with only six walks. He is the second-straight Auburn freshman to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors joining teammate Will Holland who received the award March 20.
