On Thursday morning, January 26, 2017, at about 4:00 a.m., Auburn Police responded to a shots fired call at a residence in the 200 block of Lunsford Drive. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered an unresponsive female lying in the roadway suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. The victim, identified as Minney Lee, age 24 from Auburn, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lee County Deputy Coroner Charlotte Patterson at 4:26 a.m. The body was transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner Office in Montgomery for a post mortem examination.The Auburn Police Division is investigating the death as a homicide and are being assisted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office.

On Thursday afternoon, January 26th the Auburn Police Division arrested Derrick Antavis Oliver, age 26 from Opelika on warrants charging him with murder in connection to the early morning shooting death of Minney Lee. Further investigation by Auburn Police resulted in Oliver, who was involved in a dating relationship with the victim, being developed as a suspect. The shooting allegedly occurred as a result of an altercation between the victim and Oliver in front of a residence on Lunsford Drive.Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Oliver charging him with murder and he subsequently surrendered himself to Auburn Police and members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force. He was transported to the Lee County Detention Facility where he is being held on a $150,000 bond.
