The Auburn Police Division is initiating a crime prevention & awareness campaign called “Lock it or Lose It’. This campaign is intended to be a partnership between law enforcement and the community to reduce incidents of theft from unlocked vehicles. Locally, nearly eight out of ten thefts of items from vehicles have one thing in common……an unlocked vehicle. In response to a recent trend of thefts occurring in communities in the Central Alabama area we are asking for the public’s assistance in preventing these crimes.
The Police Division will be placing “lock it or lose it” signs in various locations as well as increasing police presence to aid in reducing these preventable thefts. The communities’ contribution towards this effort is simple; remove all valuables from your vehicle, lock your vehicle and more importantly report suspicious activity.
“The Police Division has been successful over the years in preventing and reducing crime, in large part, because of assistance from the community. We are once again asking for the public's assistance by locking all vehicles and reporting suspicious activity to the Police Division” – Chief Paul Register.
