Auburn Police Arrest Man, Charging Him with First-Degree Rape

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Auburn Police arrested Curtis D. Yancey, age 45, from Auburn, on a felony Lee County Grand Jury Indictment charging him with rape first degree.

The arrest stems from an investigation into a reported sexual assault that occurred at a residence in the 1000 block of North Donahue Drive on Oct. 10, 2016. The 23-year-old female reported being sexually assaulted at the residence while she was incapacitated. Yancey, an acquaintance, was developed as a suspect.

As a result of an ongoing investigation into the incident by Auburn Police, Yancey was positively identified through DNA evidence as the individual responsible for sexually assaulting the victim. Detectives presented the case to a Lee County Grand Jury in October 2018, resulting in the case being true billed and an indictment being issued. Yancy was being sought by Auburn Police, subsequently located and taken into custody.

Yancey was transported to the Lee County Jail and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
