Mancheno qualifies for 2019 U.S. Amateur

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Auburn rising junior Brandon Mancheno earned co-medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur qualifying tournament after firing a 7-under following two rounds at Sawgrass CC.

With the win, Mancheno earned his spot in the 2019 U.S. Amateur, Aug. 11-18 at Pinehurst CC.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native carded a 2-under 70 in the first 18 holes. He was 1-over on the front nine, but hit consecutive birdies on holes 10 and 11 to highlight a 3-under back nine.

Mancheno then turned in the second-lowest round of the 36-hole tournament with a 5-under 67 in his second round.

He had a 1-under front nine and then tore up the final nine holes, totaling four birdies and five pars en route to a 4-under back nine.

Mancheno joins fellow Tiger Jovan Rebula in the 2019 U.S. Amateur field. Rebula earned an exemption through his victory at the 2018 British Amateur in Aberdeen, Scotland.
