The Chewacla Cha Cha trail race will take place at 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 15 at Chewacla State Park, located at 1245 Shell Toomer Pkwy. Participants can choose between a 5K and 10K race option.
The Cha Cha is the fourth race in this year’s Southern Singletrack Trail Series (SSTS). The SSTS was created to promote trail running in the south and introduce runners to the beautiful state parks in the suburbs of Atlanta, west Georgia and east Alabama. Runners may choose to compete in either the short or long series. Each series boasts five races of varying lengths in a different Georgia or Alabama state park: Flat Rock Park, West Point Lake, Providence Canyon State Park, Chewacla State Park and FDR State Park. A portion of proceeds from the Chewacla Cha Cha will also go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Founded in 1972, the JDRF is the leading global organization funding research for Type 1 Diabetes. The organization’s mission is to “improv[e] lives today and tomorrow by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.” Learn more about JDRF here.
Each Chewacla Cha Cha participant will receive a race t-shirt and medallion. Awards will be given to the overall male and female for both the 5K and 10K races.
Registration for the Cha-Cha is open now. Click here to register.There will be no same-day registration, so participants should be sure to register by September 14. Participants should also note that there is a $5 fee for park entrance that is not included in the registration fee.
