’Tis the season to deck the halls, and to continue the annual debate over the appropriate time to set up a Christmas tree and other holiday decorations.

Some opt to wait until after Thanksgiving while others are eager to decorate for Christmas earlier than that (even shortly after Halloween). Carrie Underwood recently weighed in with her preference, including what she did in her own home this year and why.

“My Christmas decorating schedule honestly depends on my schedule,” the powerhouse country star said, per her record label, with a laugh. Underwood’s schedule is often packed with performant dates, including her Reflection residency at Resorts World in Las Vegas, Nevada. The stunning show will pick up again on Wednesday (November 29).

Because of her residency, Underwood shared that she decorated before Thanksgiving. The My Gift star admitted that’s “not really something that I would like to do.

“I think the ideal time to decorate for Christmas is the weekend right after Thanksgiving,” Underwood said. “It’s like Thanksgiving’s over, you just bust out all of the Christmas stuff. That’s when it really kinda starts getting chilly outside, and you get to start making fires in the fireplace and really start putting the Christmas presents under the tree. There’s nothing sadder than a Christmas tree up with no presents underneath it, so I don’t really think that you want to get your Christmas tree up too early, but this year I was a little earlier than normal because we had Thanksgiving and then head out to Vegas for my Reflection shows and I had to get everything up before I left.”

Underwood recently shared that she and her husband, former NHL star Mike Fisher, have two opportunities to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families, including their two young sons Isaiah Michael, 8, and Jacob Bryan, 4. The “Stretchy Pants” artist recently shared that, because she’s often working on or around the holiday, she can at least make it to one of the two family gatherings: “I get two Thanksgivings, because I also get to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with my husband’s family, so if I don’t hit one, I’ll definitely be able to get the other one.”
