OPELIKA, Ala – This year’s Cops-On-Top fundraiser for the Lee County Special Olympics will be Friday, April 13. The Opelika Police Department (OPD) will be at Kroger in Tiger Town from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Cops on Top is one of the most important fundraisers for the Lee County Chapter of Special Olympics. A very large part of their budget comes from Cops On Top. t’s a friendly competition with the Auburn Police Department to see who can raise the most money for kids and young adults with special needs.
“OPD is the reigning champ for the past several years and we very much want to keep that going,” said Chief John McEachern. “Helping out is easy. We station ourselves on the overhead canopy at the entrance of the store and down at the entrance doors. People simply drop donations in our buckets as they enter/exit the store.”
He adds, this project is easy for us and it means so much to the people, our neighbors and friends, that are helped by this event.
This year, the OPD is adding a few exciting features. There will be former Olympians, Lee County Special Olympics Athletes and Opelika High School Athletes making special guest appearances.
