A Memorial Day shooting has left an Opelika man dead. Kevin Oliver, 33, of Opelika died from his injury shortly after arriving at the emergency room after being shot in the 1100 block of Covenant Drive in Opelika. Opelika Police received a 911 call of gunshots in the Covenant Drive area about 2:26 PM Monday afternoon. When they arrived on scene, they were told someone had been shot and was taken away from the scene in a vehicle. Paramedics and police located Oliver in a vehicle about a mile from the scene and he was transported by ambulance to the emergency room at East Alabama Medical Center. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at 2:54 PM. Police are searching for a person of interest, but no arrest has been made currently. Oliver’s body has been taken to the medical examiners office at the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for a postmortem examination. The case is being investigated by the Opelika Police, Lee County Coroner, and the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences.
