AHSAA STATE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
CLASS 7A GAME 1: Auburn 9, Hoover 2
MONTGOMERY – Auburn High School scored seven runs in the first three innings and held on to beat Hoover 9-2 Wednesday in Game 1 of the AHSAA Class 7A State Baseball Championship Series played at Paterson Field. Game 2 and game 3, if needed, will be played Thursday beginning at 10 a.m., at Riverwalk Stadium.
The Class 4A series also got underway Wednesday night with Oneonta taking on Mobile Christian at Paterson Field.
Winning pitcher Brady Fuller pitched five innings, allowed three hits, two runs and struck out six to get the win. Caleb Sanders and Tanner Phillips also hurled one scoreless inning in relief each.
Will Turner, the center fielder and lead-off hitter for Coach MattCimo’s Tigers (35-6), had a double and three RBIs. Connor Cosby had two hits and two RBIs and Henry Allen had one hit and two RBIs for Auburn.
Hoover (26-21) got a double and RBI from William Steele, and Cade Carr had the other RBI.
Brewer Smith started and got the loss for the Bus.
The AHSAA TV Network, produced by WOTM TV, is televising the remaining games of the series live over the WOTM network of cable stations and is also being live-streamed over the NFHS Network.
The Class 3A championship series between Phil Campbell and Bayside Academy plays game one of its series at 6 p.m., at Paterson Field Thursday night. The 3A series concludes Friday at Riverwalk beginning with game two at 10 a.m.
